Ability power is a champion stat also known as AP (for Ability Power, in English) which increases the effectiveness of most skills. It accumulates additively.
Effects that benefit from ability power receive a bonus based on a certain percentage of a champion's current ability power. For example, if a spell deals 100 (+ 20% AP) damage and a champion has 50 ability power, the spell's damage will increase by 10. In-game, the descriptions for each ability do not show the percentage, but rather the resulting bonus; the example above would show 100 (+10).

Master Degrees
- Mental Strength Mental Strength increases the champion's ability power by 0.33 / 0.61 / 0.89 per champion level (6/11/16 to 18 level).
- Arcane Mastery Arcane Mastery increases the champion's ability power by 6.
- Archmage Archmage increases the champion's ability power by 2 / 3.5 / 5% per rank.
- Arcane Cleaver Arcane Cleaver causes the champion's basic attacks to deal bonus magic damage equal to 5% of their ability power.
Neutral improvements
- The improvement Exalted with Baron Nashor grants +40 ability power (among other bonuses) for 4 minutes.
Runes
- The Ability Power and Progressive Ability Power runes increase ability power.

Trivia
- The skill with the highest AP rate is Summon: Tibbers from Annie, with a maximum AP radius of 9.8 counting the initial cast and that the target takes damage from all 45 instances of damage from the aura of Tibbers.
- The second and third bounce of Ebb and flow of Nami scales exponentially, however the low base radius means she won't beat other spells at normal AP levels.
- Darius, trot, We are, Olaf, Riven, Talon, Vayne, y Zed have no innate abilities or effects that scale with ability power.
- Apart from Veigar and Thresh, who torically can gain infinite ability power due to the passive effects of Evil Attack and Condemnation respectively, and Galio, whose Runic Skin Runic Skin interacts with a metagame mechanic that is not meant to be seen during gameplay (bonus magic resistance when disconnected), the highest amount of ability power obtainable by a champion is 1729.886 ... in Mordekaiser. To do this, you must:
- Be level 18.
- Having a Mejai's Soul Stealer fully accumulated and five Rabadon's Deadly Hats.
- Have a full page of Progressive Ability Power runes.
- Maximum levels in the masteries Arcane Mastery Arcane Mastery, Mind Force Mind Force, and Archmage Archmage.
- Own upgrade Exalted with Baron Nashor.
- Consumed an Elixir of Brilliance Elixir of Brilliance.
- Being affected by the aura of Glow of Taric.
- Have murdered a Kassadin enemy with the same characteristics (except for having a Embrace of the Seraph instead of a Rabadon's Death Hat) with Sons of the Grave Sons of the Grave
- Galio is able to gain the most Ability Power at level 1 in the game (without logging out) at over 126.46725 AP. This is accomplished by a combination of the following effects:
