Notes

  • The heal amplification is applied to the passive's total heal value.
  • Athene's Unholy Grail grants a minimum total of 50 AP, as Dissonance grants 20 AP from the item's mana regen.

Synergy

  • Blood charges allow any champion with shield or healing abilities to become a healer, but only if they can also deal damage. Similarly, blood charges greatly increase healing as long as the healer can contribute to the damage dealt.
  • Being able to deal percentage damage greatly increases the rate of generation of blood charges. Liandry's Torment is a good example.
  • Athene's Unholy Grail, along with a standard wizard support build of Remnants of the Watchers, Redemption and Burning Cauldron will grant a total of 350% base mana regeneration, causing Dissonance to grant you a total of 70 ability powers on its own.

Announcement made by ByronicHero: [1]

In the Darius patch, we will also be releasing a new upgrade option for the classic magic resistance item, Chalice of Harmony. To help the Chalice remain a viable late-game item option, we wanted to add an update for it specifically targeting AP carries who might have trouble keeping their mana high. With that in mind, we've added the option to add some damage stats later in the game by upgrading to Athena's Unholy Grail. The Chalice Dilemma The Magic Resistance added by the Chalice of Harmony combined with the strong Mana Regeneration granted by its unique passive makes it an attractive option for a disadvantaged AP - especially one heavily reliant on the Ancient Golem Crest. In case you find yourself behind your lane opponent with the enemy team invading your jungle, a timely Chalice can give you the increased durability you need to recover. Meanwhile, rapid Mana Regeneration can function as a kind of surrogate golem buff, allowing even the most heavily mana-dependent caster to continue to fight effectively. Unfortunately, while the Chalice of Harmony might be the right item choice to power an early game comeback, without any damage stats wizard players often sell it as the game progresses, or simply avoid buying it at all. For this reason, we have decided to offer the option to take a little extra boost for your investment by upgrading to the Unholy Grail of Athena. My Cup Overflows To give the Chalice of Harmony the power it needs to last into the late game, we decided to add the option to combine it with a Fiendish Codex to build the Unholy Grail of Athena. With some Ability Power and cooldown reduction, Athena's Unholy Grail can easily double as an essential item for mages interested in getting some extra durability. Furthermore, in addition to the Mana Regeneration passive offered by the Chalice of Harmony unique passive, Athena's Unholy Grail also has the added benefit of granting a significant amount of additional Mana when scoring a kill or assist. This can help keep the AP carrie aggressive ganking power on the map, as well as grant additional endurance capacity over the course of a prolonged team fight. Drink to that! With the addition of a couple of offensive stats and a new, offensively focused Mana Regeneration mechanic, the new upgrade to the Chalice of Harmony should be a more attractive option for mages early in the game. Upgrading to an Unholy Grail of Athena can help you turn that early game return to match into a higher late-game endurance ability.

Trivia

  • This item was named after Athene, a summoner with 5,000 referrals who is a popular figure in the video game world, best known for playing World of Warcraft before LoL.
    • In English, Athene is an alternative pronunciation of Athena (in Spanish, Athena or Athena), the Greek goddess of war.
  • Athene's Unholy Grail it was named during its development as "Goblet of Discord" before its final name was defined.
    • This nickname makes an ironic contrast to its minor component, the Chalice of Harmony, which probably wanted to highlight the most offensive properties of this object.
