Attack speed (also know as AS o ASPD, for the English Attack Speed) is the frequency with which a champion performs basic attacks and is shown as "attacks per second". It is capped at 2.5 attacks per second, or 1 attack every two fifths of a second (0.4 seconds).
Attack speed bonuses work by adding a percentage of a champion's base attack speed to their "base attack speed." Champions with a low base attack speed will receive a smaller boost from an attack speed bonus than other champions with a high base attack speed, but the proportional increase in DPS (damage per second) will be the same for both. This statistic can be increased by leveling up with items, runes, masteries, upgrades, and abilities. It can only be diminished by certain items and abilities.

Calculations
Base attack speed
Each champion's base attack speed (ASbase) is calculated using a hidden variable called the attack speed offset, [1] which ranges from −0.10 to 0.08. (ASbase) is the number displayed at level 1 without runes, masteries, etc. It will be rendered in this way throughout the .

Sources of bonus attack speed
- Champions get AS% at each level, not including level 1. This amount ranges from around 0% to 4% and depends on the champion.

- The final attack speed cannot exceed the limit of 2.5 attacks per second.
- Many of the percentages in in-game descriptions (like the one for runes) are rounded, so they turn out to be somewhat different unless the precise numbers are known.

- Calculating base attack speed:
- The delay in the attack of

Wither from
Nasus reduces an enemy's attack speed by 17.5% plus an additional 1.5 / 3 / 4.5 / 6 / 7.5% per second for 5 seconds.
Absolute Zero of
Nunu slows the attack speed of nearby enemy units by 25% while channeling for 3 seconds.

Notes
- All percentages listed as a champion's attack speed stat are approximations.
- The duration of the attack speed reduction No. is affected by no crowd control reduction. However if the attack speed reduction is in a crowd control skill like Glacial Blast Glacial Blast of
Nunu, then crowd control reduction will decrease the duration. Then the attack speed reduction is diminished by the joint only effect of other crowd control. This was changed in patch 3.13, so attack speed reductions are now counted as slows.
The Sacrifice of
Lucian is so far the only ability that scales directly from the champion's attack speed. Many other abilities can scale indirectly for example, via flat cooldown reduction per attack with
Alpha Strike of
Maestro Yi).
