Cooldown reduction (abbreviated as CDR, for the acronym of Çooldown Reductionis a champion stat that reduces ability cooldown, or the amount of time to wait before an ability can be used again once activated, by a percentage.



Cooldown reduction can be obtained through items, upgrades, runes, and masteries, as well as some passive abilities.

Cooldown reduction builds additively. For example, if you have 5% cooldown reduction for masteries and 10% for a Stinger, it will have a total of 15% cooldown reduction. It cannot increase beyond 40%.

A cost-effective way to reach a maximum CDR is to max Witchcraft Witchcraft mastery (5%) and buy any item with 20% reduction and Ionian Boots of Lucidity (15%), giving a total of 40% CDR. The cheapest is to buy the CDR boots and a Morellonomicon (2200g).

The cooldown reduction is determined the moment the ability is activated. Increasing / decreasing it while the ability is on cooldown will not affect it.


Cooldown reduction does not apply to active effects on items such as Fiery Death Claw or the passive effects of items such as the Guardian angel. Most sources of cooldown reduction also do not apply to summoner spells unless specifically stated otherwise, for example the unique effect of the Distortion Distortion enchantment for boots. CDR does not apply to any Innate Ability of any kind.

Decrease cooldowns

Some champions have abilities that lower their cooldowns by a flat amount, either their base cooldown or their current cooldown, or totally reset it.
