" "They look at me and they only see the mask. I look at them and I only see their fears."
    - I ne I ne

In life he was Yone, Yasuo's half-brother and an outstanding student at his village's swordsmanship school. After dying at the hands of his brother, he was stalked by a malevolent entity from the spirit realm and forced to assassinate her with his own sword. Now condemned to wear a demonic mask over his face, Yone relentlessly hunts all those creatures to understand what he has become.

    Summary

    The Unforgettable

In life, Yone respected a strict code of honor and duty. Since he was a child, his love for his family led him to assume the role of protector, significantly motivated by the loss of his father. His way of acting was in complete contrast to that of his half brother Yasuo, who was intrepid and reckless; Yone, on the other hand, opted for patience and discipline.

Despite this, the two were inseparable. When Yone began his studies at the renowned swordsmanship school near his village, Yasuo followed in his footsteps.

When training, Yone was forced to appease his younger brother's impulsiveness. However, when Yasuo refused to accept personal tutelage from Master Souma, an expert in the legendary wind technique, Yone gave him a maple seed, a symbol of humility, to show his support.

Yone was proud of his brother, but had doubts about the wise teacher's judgment: he feared that Yasuo's impulsive nature would make him a mediocre student. But Master Souma was highly respected and did not make decisions lightly.

Putting her worries aside, Yone continued her practice with the two swords. Soon, his prowess earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow disciples. Despite the fact that Yone's skill was unmatched, Yasuo's handling of the wind technique made his training sessions a sight to behold, while also bringing joy to both brothers.

But that happiness did not last long, as the war reached Ionia.

Yone, along with many other disciples, had to leave to become part of the defenses against the advancing Noxian forces, while reluctantly Yasuo had to stay at the school to protect his master. However, one fateful night, Master Souma was found dead, killed with the same wind technique that he used to teach.

When Yone returned, he learned that Yasuo had fled.

The event shook Yone to the soul. His fears had come true: Master Souma had been wrong.

Yone blamed himself. If Yasuo had killed Souma, then Yone would have failed in his attempt to guide him to the right path. If Yasuo had simply abandoned his post and allowed the master to die, then Yone would have failed to instill discipline in him. One way or another, Yasuo had already killed several of those who were chasing him; for Yone, that blood stained both his hands and his brother's.

He tracked down Yasuo. When their swords finally clashed, Yone's steel was unmatched ... but Yasuo's mastery of the wind technique wiped out his brother.

However, death was not the end. When Yone awoke in the spirit realm, he was crushed under the weight of his failure. His fury exploded. Angered, he struck the ground with his fists.

A thunderous laugh tore through his thoughts. He turned around and encountered a monstrous humanoid spirit with a blood-red sword. It was a powerful azakana, a predatory entity that had stalked Yone from beyond the veil.

Before he could speak, the azakana attacked him.

Yone drew the spirit echoes from his swords and covered himself with them just in time to block the attack. Once again, he was in a duel in which his swordsmanship was unmatched, but the magic surpassed him.

Rage consumed him. A life of honor and duty was broken. In a flash of fury, Yone snatched the sword from the azakana and stabbed it through him.

The last thing he heard before a new darkness took hold of him was that same shrill laugh ...

When he came to, Yone realized that he was back in the material realm, even though this was now only a gloomy shadow of what it had been. He struggled to his feet, the hazy memory of the spirit realm in his mind and a blood-red sword in his hand. Above his head, a mask had merged with the shape of the azakana's face. He couldn't take it off, but now he could see other azakana through their eyes. They weren't real demons yet; for the moment, they were content to feed off the negativity before it manifested to completely devour their guests. Yet as Yone would discover, if the azakana's name was known, it was reduced to an inert mask of personified emotion.

Despite this, he could not know for sure if or when the azakana he carried would wake up to consume it one day. In life, Yone had worn the mask of protector, brother, and disciple for so long that it became his identity. But now, in the quiet moments, he swears he can feel that mask transform on his face. His own past and his unresolved conflict with Yasuo pale in the face of this new threat.

Yone hunts these treacherous creatures in an attempt to understand what he has become. Each name brings him one step closer to discovering that of that demon whose laughter still haunts him.

It's the only thing that matters. There is only the hunt for the truth.
