"   "We are the children of the First Lands, and No. we will be slaves! "
    Ionia Irelia

Ionia, in original Vastaya nomenclature: The First Lands, is a land of unspoiled beauty and natural magic. Its inhabitants, who live in scattered settlements throughout this huge archipelago, are a spiritual people who seek to live in harmony and balance with the world. There are many orders and sects in Ionia, each following its own (often conflicting) paths and ideals. Self-sufficient and isolationist, Ionia has remained largely neutral in the wars that have devastated Valoran throughout the centuries, until it was invaded by Ionia Noxus. This brutal conflict and occupation has forced Ionia to reassess its place in the world. How it reacts and the future path that Ionia will follow is still undetermined, however, the animosity against Noxus has led to militarization and vigilantism. The thirst for the dark arts is on the rise.

    Summary

    Lore

Surrounded by treacherous seas, Ionia Ionia It is made up of several allied provinces spread over a huge archipelago, known to many as the First Lands. Since Ionian culture has long been shaped by the search for balance in all things, the boundary between the material and spiritual realms tends to be more permeable here, especially in the wild forests and mountains.

Although the enchantments of these lands may be fickle, their creatures dangerous and fairies, for many centuries most Ionians led abundant lives. The warrior monasteries, the provincial militias, and even Ionia itself, had been enough to protect them.

But that ended twelve years ago when Ionia Noxus attacked the First Lands. The seemingly endless war hosts of the empire savagely attacked Ionia, and were only defeated after many years, and at great cost.

Now, Ionia exists in uneasy peace. Different reactions to the war have divided the region; some groups, such as the Shojin monks or the Kinkou, seek a return to isolationist pacifism and pastoral traditions. Other more radical factions, such as the Navori Brotherhood and the Order of Shadows, demand a militarization of the magic of the earth, to create a single and unified nation that can take revenge on Noxus.

Ionia's fate hangs in a delicate balance that few are willing to reverse, but everyone can feel restless shifting underfoot.

    Culture

    Government

Ionia has one of the most unusual governance structures on Runeterra. This is due in part to their impartial political neutrality as the Ionians have generally avoided conflict in order to continue their never-ending quest for Enlightenment. The power and wisdom of those who find it are considered blessed or enlightened, for example as Ionia Soraka, the Daughter of the Stars, who are considered with great respect.

The lack of a military presence has prevented Ionia from needing a single leader like other city-states. Instead, Ionia is divided into provinces, each represented by an elder. To determine who will be the "elder", a competition is held every 5 years called "The Distinction". This competition has multiple essays that test your candidates across a wide range of skills. Schools from every corner of Ionia send their best students (Men and women who have shaped their bodies and minds on the path to enlightenment) to represent them in the Distinction. The predominant elders of each region then meet in the Convergence of Elders 3 times a year called Elder for an emergency assembly. The Duchess Ionia Karma, the Enlightened One, resides among them. Surprisingly, there has never been a recorded power struggle within this system, but this is generally proven due to the test of humility, one of the most important and revered tests of Distinction.

    Various Sects

The Ionians have created some of the most remarkable martial art forms in all of Runeterra & ndash; a manifestation of his quest for enlightenment.

    • The 'Art of Hiten' is a blade style developed by the famous master swordsman Lito. His way of accomplishing this was a closely guarded secret, but swords were said to breathe in his hands. When Master Lito died, his daughter Ionia Irelia, the Will of the Blades, inherited the Hiten style. Irelia has taken from the art form to new heights as she is able to telekinetically command multiple blades. Weapons dance around you fluidly, effortlessly cutting down opponents within your neighborhood.
    • The Art of Wuju are principles founded on obtaining absolute spiritual awareness of oneself and one's enemy. Ionia Master Yi, the Wuju Sword with the right hand of this ancient art, descended from one of the few tribes dedicated to the preservation of Wuju. Due to the slaughter of his own, Master Yi is now one of the last Wuju practitioners. He is committed to keeping the Wuju style alive by teaching the art form to other people, such as Ionia Wukong, the King of the Monkeys.
    • Hirana Monastery is home to many monks who have delved deep into spirituality. Its adherents are some of the most devoted supporters of personal harmony within oneself. Although monks deplore violence, they are not defenseless, as they are skilled enough to turn and redirect the opponent's attacks. In an act of generosity, the monks welcomed Ionia Udyr, the Shapeshifter, and teaches him how to harness and control his animal fury most of the time.
    • The Kinkou Order exists as an ancient clan of origin in the Ionian Islands dedicated to the preservation of balance. Order, chaos, light, darkness; all things must exist in perfect harmony for such is the shape of the universe. The Order employs a triumvirate of shadow warriors to support its causes in the world. The three warriors of the shadows Ionia Shen, Ionia Know y Ionia Akali are each charged with one of the three sacred duties: Watch the stars, hunt the sun, and prune the tree. The order, however, has fallen since before the new Shadow Order.
    • The Order of the Shadow is a new clan that has dedicated itself to learning the forbidden art of shadows and killing anyone who refuses to learn them. Their leader, Ionia Zed, the Master of Shadows, was the first to learn the technique again after 200 years. By using the shadow technique, he was able to bring down the Kinkou Order and they have since used their lands as their own training grounds.
    • The 'Shojin Monastery' is home to peaceful monks who have long practiced the martial arts of inner healing. Through meditation the monks are able to rejuvenate from injuries at a high rate. Some of these priests can also display acts of incredible willpower, such as suffering through agonizing amounts of pain for weeks without screaming. Ionia Lee Sin, the Blind Monk, resides within the monastery, having traveled there years ago in hopes of obtaining atonement for past mistakes.
    • The 'Guardian of the Pallas Temple' was a lone role given only to the most exceptional Ionian warriors. Serving as the guardian of the temple, the Guardian would guard the Pit of Palas, an ancient well with such vile corruption that many feared it could engulf the island in darkness. Sadly, the lonely position no longer exists. The last Guardian, Ionia Varus, the Arrow of Punishment, allowed himself to be consumed by the black flames of the well, gaining more power for his revenge against Noxus.

    Demography

Ionia is a place visually marked by numerous gardens and temples. Nature reserves and parks fill the Ionian countryside. A serene aesthetic dominates the landscape, including its port and its industrial sectors. The buildings are constructed with the aim of preserving the environment as much as possible. All the structures in Ionia are lavishly decorated, especially the temples. Magic is used abundantly in the city, although only for peaceful purposes. Several of the city-state's greatest links have been formed in prominent temples and communal houses of contemplation.

One of the most iconic structures in Ionia is the Placidium, located in the heart of the city-state on top of one of its largest nexuses. This building is home to the School of Transcendentalism, an organization dedicated to raising Runeterra's population to the highest possible spiritual heights. The school is best known for being Ionia Soraka as part of her board of regents. Beings from all over Runeterra flock to the school, seeking the secrets of spiritual enlightenment. Many of Ionia's most successful diplomats have spent at least some time studying at the School of Transcendentalism.

    Union to the League

Ionia is known for her respect for balance, and this also extends to her politics. Ionia was not an original member of the League. He had, and continues to claim, a neutral stance on the political affairs of Valoran. However, this position has not excluded them from the conflict with the continent. In recent times, the power-hungry city-state of Noxus turned its sights on Ionia for the purposes of conquest. Noxus launched a series of campaigns to conquer the apparently pacifist Ionians. While the initial stages of the invasion were highly successful, Ionia eventually rallied a defense that shocked the Noxian High Command. At the same time, the Ionian leaders hastened Ionia's entry into the League, preventing Noxus from further hostilities outside the Fields of Justice. Noxus was able to maintain an occupation in some southern Ionian territories, thanks to a key victory over Ionia in a League match that was fought to determine the fate of the conquered lands.

After seven years, Ionia and Noxus fought again in a rematch in which the Ionians were victorious, reclaiming their southern provinces.

    History

    Ancient Darkin influence

Described by Ionia Ezreal Archivo:AAMIR Woodblock.jpg

An Ionian wooden plaque with a carved image of the figure. Is it stained with ink or blood?

This Ionian wooden plaque was carved long before the war with Noxus. They are rare nowadays, but they are always more or less the same. They all represent things of beauty: landscapes, monks in meditation, stars and the night sky, all those "lighting" things that they are always talking about. All of them ... except this one. I've never seen anything like it. Is that same Ionia dark figure with the same blade - and worst of all - I don't think those red stains are ink ... "

    Invasion of Noxus

When the first League was formed, Ionia initially refused to participate; residents prefer to pursue personal enlightenment rather than fight constant battles with other city-states. The militaristic city-state of Noxus saw their decision as an opportunity. No longer at direct war with Demacia, Noxus had turned his expansionist eye toward conquering those left outside the League's jurisdiction. Noxian spies began to aggressively trade with the Ionians, traveling to the island to study their weaknesses and identify critical targets. When the plan was formed, the Noxus forces struck.

The southern provinces of Ionia were the most open to trade and were also among the wealthiest. It was there that the Noxian forces landed under the cover of night. After being met with little resistance, the Noxus forces formed their first beachheads and began their invasion. While the war was very much in favor of the Noxus forces, the Ionians would not surrender. In response to growing Ionian resistance, Noxus brought mercenaries from Zaun. Mad scientists implement unspeakable tactics, unleashing their cruel creations against non-combatant civilians. These acts of terror were what finally gave birth to the full anger of the Ionians.

Bringing all his strength and martial traditions to bear, the island fiercely defended itself. The turning point of the war occurred at the "great support of the Placidium", where the Ionians forced the Noxians to halt their advance and cede ground. Although they suffered heavy casualties, the Ionian warriors eventually brought the invaders to a standstill, pushing them back to their power bases on the island. Despite their losses, the Noxus forces remained in control of three of the wealthy southern provinces - Galrin, Navori, and Shon-Xan.

    The Last Guardian

Following the events of the last Noxian invasion, Varus, the Guardian of the Pallas Temple, returned to his village to find that his home had been destroyed during the invasion. Varus swore vengeance against all Noxians but needed more power to fulfill his new oath. With nothing to lose, the former guardian returned to the Pit of Palas to obtain the necessary strength to carry out his revenge.

Black flames of the Pit consumed his body and transformed him into a creature now known as Ionia Varus, the Arrow of Punishment.

    Dispute for the Island

From left to right: Galrin, Navori, and Shon-Xan.

Seven years after the Noxian invasion began, the remaining Ionian families, gathered by Duchess Karma, had decided that there was only one resource left to them. They requested to join the League of Legends in order to defeat Noxus once and for all. They made their intentions clear stating that they only joined the League in order to ensure the future safety of Ionia in the world. His participation was granted and the battle was created. The "test of the Island" was perhaps one of the most famous wars of all time. Unfortunately for the Ionians, they lost, albeit under questionable circumstances. Some insist that Noxus's victory came as the result of previous manipulation.

The results of the battle allowed Noxian forces to legitimately occupy the southern regions of Ionia. Ionian natives were treated as second-class citizens by the Noxian ruling elite. Soldiers, political dissidents, and anyone else who threatened the Noxians were buried in labor camps. Forces continued to loot the island's wealth and natural resources, shipping the spoils back to Noxus. There was a lot of external political pressure, especially from Demacia, by the invaders to leave the island. The Noxian High Command claimed that they remain there to aid the future development of the island nation, and that they would leave once Ionia had been modernized enough to compete economically in the world and protect themselves from external threats.

    The shadows released

An orphan, Ionia Zed, was admitted and trained by a great ninja master. Only one other student seemed to be on his level; the teacher's son, Ionia Shen. It seemed that Zed could never win his master's favor, as every battle between the rivals ended in a draw. Frustrated and jealous, he was looking for an advantage. The young ninja ventured into a sealed part of the clan temple, where he found a sealed box. Feeling the dark knowledge within, Zed knew he shouldn't open it, but he looked inside nonetheless. In an instant, the shadows touched his mind, revealing techniques that had been hidden for so long. Now armed with an ace up his sleeve, he challenged Shen, and this time he defeated the master's son. He expected to be praised and recognized in his moment of victory, but somehow the master knew that Zed had used forbidden arts, and banished him.

Humiliated, the young ninja wandered for years. His bitterness turned to ambition, and he began training others in the shadow style. But he knew that without the box of shadows he would never be perfect and so he swore, to go back there one day and get that box back.

    Monk Shojin Protest

Eight years earlier in southern Ionia they could challenge Noxus once again for their independence. However, protests in Ionia were on the rise, mostly due to the self-immolation of the monk Shojin, Ionia Lee Sin, in the Lotus Garden. These public protests challenged the authority of the League. Jonios claimed that fifteen years was too long of a stay to be granted to the invaders, and that Noxus had taken advantage of the fact that the League was newly formed when the decision was made. Demand for a rematch before they were made with Ionia Irelia, the Ionian captain of the guard, at the head of the effort. Despite Noxian protests that such challenges border on illegality, Ionia garnered much support in the court of public opinion. In a surprisingly direct speech, the Prince Ionia Jarvan IV, the Exemplar of Demacia, spoke out against the Noxian occupation. He stated that if the League was unwilling to withdraw the nation's Noxians from the island, then they planned to personally visit the island.

    Road to Revenge

As the weeks passed, Chancellor Malek Hawkmoon, the officer in charge of overseeing the Noxian presence in Ionia, returned from an emergency conference in Noxus. Hawkmoon gave an impressive response to the protests across Valoran, stating that while the demands on Ionia's side were illegal, it was within Noxus' right to grant Ionia a rematch before the appropriate term had elapsed. Should Ionia wish to meet Noxus on the Fields of Justice again to determine the fate of the southern provinces, then Noxus would agree to the terms of a rematch. The convergence of Elders called an assembly immediately after Hawkmoon's speech.

Following the Elders after the meeting ended, Duchess Karma announced the acceptance of Noxus' offer. The two city-states entered into negotiations to consolidate the bet of that battle. It was ultimately determined that if Ionia won, Noxus must withdraw his forces in full, and immediately stop any and all extraction of Ionian resources. However, if Noxus was the winner, Ionia must completely hand over the nation's southern provinces to Noxus and furnish a single Noxian appointee with a seat among the Ionian Elders. This would give Noxus a voice and an ear in the government of Ionia. The League proceeded to approve ten champions from each side. These champions would later meet in a single battle to determine the fate of Ionia.

    Rematch Results

Ionia's retaliation against Noxus ended in a decisive victory for Ionia, allowing the Ionians to regain their southern provinces. Noxian forces began withdrawing from those regions, the citizens of Galrin, Navori, and Shon-Xan erupting in celebration before their occupants fully depart. Those regions had been separated from the rest of Ionia for seven years, and Ionians from across the island descended upon the regions to share food, supplies, and support. Hopeful reunions between separated families became common throughout Ionia. Many citizens gathered en masse in the Lotus Gardens. They eagerly awaited the fate of Lee Sin, the fiery monk of the Shojin Monastery, who incited a protest by setting himself on fire. It was only when the monk was greeted by his sister from the liberated province of Galrin that he allowed the flame to go out. His brothers then rushed the monk's blistered body quickly back to the monastery for treatment.

Invasion, occupation, protest, and finally liberation, this long Ionian novel had come to an end.

    Noxian Liberation Celebrations

The Lotus Gardens / Capital of Ionia / Ionia

    November 06, 20 CLE

The wind blows gently through the Lotus Gardens of Ionia, their magically illuminated lanterns gently swaying from side to side. Many people gathered along the courtyard, with tables filled with traditional Ionian delicacies lining the walkways. People from all over Ionia, wearing traditional formal clothes from their respective clans, and military personnel in celebratory uniforms came for the festivities. Not very often there is a great honor, that one of their own is accepted as a champion in the League. This particular garden however, was not often the place for such festivities.

Several prominent figures sat at the coffee table. The Ionian champions, Ionia Master Yi and Ionia Soraka, as well as other leadership figures such as Randuin (The leader of the Kashuld clan), Shen representing the Kinkou Order and even the Duchess of Ionia, Ionia Mixed.

Ionia Irelia got up from her seat in the middle of the talk, calmed down and said "Thank you all for your support, I will do my best to have all the honor as champion in the name of Ionia. Our fight is not over, but we have to endure until our lands are liberated from our Noxian invaders. We have to be strong and we have to endure for the future of our people. I chose this place to remind everyone of the will of our country. Let us continue on the path that our brother Shojin has opened for us. ", She raised her glass in the direction of the burning Monk in the corner of the courtyard," He is the balance between all things. "

The crowd cheered, the music began to play ... And the party began!

    The Fire Festival

Ions from all the provinces gathered under the blossoming branches of the Great Tree in the serene gardens yesterday for the annual festival of the city-state. A tradition in early summer, this festival was a symbol of Ionian culture, celebrating cleanliness and rebirth of the spirit. The festivities begin at dawn as the citizens pouring into the serene gardens. Vendors settled along the edges of the garden, offering traditional Ionian food wares, clothing, and ancient weaponry. The citizens mingled in the shade of the great tree and wrote their problems as well as concerns on scrolls to be hung from the branches of the tree.

During the night, the Ionian citizens were able to enjoy various musical and theatrical performances belonging to Ionian history or legends. Headlining performance featured with champions Ionia Shen, the Eye of Twilight and Ionia Akali, the Fist of Shadow, who made "The Queen's Tale", a legend in which an ancient Ionian warrior is hunted by an evil spirit. Akali took the part of the Queen herself, dressed in formal red and white Ionian battle garb, and Shen played the spirit that tormented her, adorned with a fearsome mask. According to legend, the Queen fled from the spirit for years, but he always found her and tormented her. Lastly, the Queen donned her own mask to confront the spirit, but when she turned to him, he never returned, scared away by his strength.

When the sun rose in the morning and the tree had become almost entirely hidden behind scrolls, an Ionian summoner briefly set them ablaze. As the magic dissipated, the sun shone through the branches of the great tree. Master Hana, an Ionian adjudicator, stated that this was the festival's greatest lesson: Behind any darkness, the light is always greater.

    The Celestial Fortress

    Ionia Ionia

    Syndra in her fortress

Ionia Syndra, the Dark Sovereign no longer felt the power growing within her as it had during her youth. His frustration grew more and more and finally he confronted his mentor, demanding an explanation. The wizard revealed that he had put Syndra's magic to sleep, hoping that she would learn self-control and restraint. Feeling the victim of such betrayal, he advanced towards the magician and ordered him to withdraw the spell that held his powers. Since that teacher refused, I assassinated him. Despite having regained her freedom, she refused to return to the society that had tried to steal her gift. Instead, he decided to transform his old prison into his own fortress. Forcing the limits of his magic, he ripped the structure from its foundations and lifted it to the skies.

    End of Eternity

    Soraka before the betrayal.

Soraka lived for centuries in an enchanted grove. This being from the stars healed the wounded and sick who visited her. A man named Warwick came to his grove and begged him to heal his wife, who was lying lifeless in his arms. His desperation touched Soraka. Although it was too late to save his wife, he offered her help to ease the pain his loss caused him. Warwick didn't like the idea of letting go of his grief, so he left the grove.

    Soraka as a mortal.

However, he returned a few days later to listen to Soraka's advice. She began to strengthen the ties that bound her to the grieving man. One day, Warwick told him that he had found the man who murdered his wife. He believed that revenge would end his pain once and for all, and if he died during the battle, he could at least rest in peace. Although Soraka pleaded with him, Warwick ignored his words and left the grove. Voices from the stars warned him not to follow him, but Soraka couldn't help it.

This was the first time he had set foot in the mortal world, and soon he found Warwick fighting desperately with a group of men. He tried to heal him, but for each wound he closed, the men opened two more. Soraka realized that if he wanted to save his friend he had to fight. The stars were screaming inside his head, asking him not to use his powers to do harm. But he ignored their pleas, and struck a brilliant beam of light at the attackers. Their voices torn by screams of terror and unable to open their eyes to its divine radiance, they fled in terror. Soraka's celestial form disappeared and the stars fell silent. For this transgression, Soraka became one more mortal. You can still feel the power of the stars latent within you, but they are no longer your guides. She was relieved when she found Warwick safe and sound, and healed his wounds, but the man she considered her friend stabbed her in the ribs with a dagger. As blood gushed from within, Soraka realized that he had tricked her, and that everything he had done was part of a complicated ruse. Invaded by a feeling of humiliation and betrayal, she once again invoked the power of the stars, which scorched the traitor's skin and forever cursed his cruelty. He withdrew with an agonized scream, and Soraka stared at the reflection of her fate. Although her life had changed, she felt powerful and renewed with a unique purpose. Now that she was no longer tied to the grove, Soraka would settle in the mortal world, vowing to heal the wounded and protect the most defenseless.

    The Kinkou Order falls.

The Fall of the Kinkou Order

One day, Ionia Zed, the Master of Shadows looked at his followers and saw that his students were now an army. He took them back to the temple to claim their prize. At the gates, he was surprised to see their old master waiting for them, welcoming Zed and his disciples as if they were welcome guests. The old man laid his sword at Zed's feet, declaring that he had failed him as a teacher. By banishing his former student, the master had condemned Zed to the shadows instead of leading him down the path of balance. The old man implored Zed to enter the temple, destroy the box, and bring his followers to equilibrium. The dark ninja followed his master inside. Moments later, the gathered ninjas heard Zed scream in pain. Mysteriously, he emerged unscathed again and threw his master's severed head at Shen's feet. Screaming in anger, Zed ordered his followers to slaughter the master's students and get the box.

That day was the downfall of the old Kinkou Order. Although many students died, some escaped thanks to the heroic efforts of Ionia Shen. Now, the temple is a dark training ground for the Order of the Shadow. Zed is the master of the Order, and his mandate is simple: perfect his own technique and kill all the ninjas who refuse to embrace the shadows.
