Master Yi
Master Yi tempered his body and fine-tuned his mind so that his way of thinking and acting became almost one. Though he only chooses to act violently as a last resort, the grace and speed of his sword ensure that the resolve is always nimble. As one of the last practitioners of the Ionian art of Wuju, Yi has dedicated his life to continuing the legacy of his people and seeking out potential new disciples with the Seven Glasses of Knowledge to identify the most worthy.

Wuju sword
In Ionia, in the central province of Bahrl, there was once a mountainous settlement, hidden in its serene beauty. There, in the village of Wuju, little Yi grew up learning sword techniques, pursuing a dream that would later turn into a tragedy.
Like most children, he admired those who wore silk robes and who possessed swords with poems in their name. His parents forged swords and owned a workshop frequented by local warriors that Yi made a good impression on. He spent his mornings in the gardens, training with his mother, and during the evenings, he recited poetry to his father by candlelight. When it came time for Yi to apprentice to the Wuju Masters, his parents couldn't have been prouder.
Applying his talent and discipline to training, he exceeded all expectations. Before long, the entire village knew "young master" Yi.
Still, the humble student wondered about the rest of Ionia. From the top of the tallest pagodas, he glimpsed distant cities that no one mentioned, but when he set out to travel down the mountain, sword in hand, his mentors forbade him. Wuju had been founded by those who believed that his swordplay was too precious to be shared, and too sacred to shed blood ... so, for centuries, he thrived in isolation, with no outsiders knowing his true nature.
All of this changed the day Yi saw huge plumes of smoke rising over distant villages. Noxian battalions had invaded from the coast, conquering settlement after settlement in waves that dyed the provinces red. Choosing the people of Ionia over the sacred tradition of Wuju, Yin ventured down to help defend the First Lands. To everyone's amazement, he swept through the front lines like a whirlwind, defeating the enemy with dazzling swordplay never before seen by outsiders.
Word spread everywhere about the one-man army like mist on the mountains. Inspired by his bravery, his fellow disciples joined the battle and together they traveled to Navori, where the greatest of wars was raging.
The Noxian commanders saw in Wuju a great threat that they could not ignore. They investigated the origin of these matchless warriors and chose to ruthlessly attack their home. In a single night, the entire village was destroyed. Its people and culture were wiped out by a chemical fire that no steel could have contained.
Once the war came to an end, Yi returned as the only surviving disciple, finding his home in ruins. The magic of the earth had been desecrated and everyone he had known and loved was gone. Killed, not in body, but in spirit, Yi was the latest victim of the attack. With no other Wuju experts alive, he realized that he must assume the title of master.
Ravaged by grief, he chose to seclude himself, obsessively training to bury the guilt for his survival, but the wisdom of the masters of yore seemed to fade with the mist in time. He began to question whether it was possible for a single man to preserve an entire legacy ... until he encountered the most unexpected individual.
A curious monkey-like vastaya challenged him to a duel. Reluctantly, Master Yi accepted the creature's requests and defeated it with ease. But the vastaya refused to give up and returned day after day with ever more ingenious tricks, forcing Yi to react and improvise. For the first time in years, Yi once again felt the essence of Wuju.
The two clashed for weeks, until the bruised stranger finally knelt on the ground and introduced himself as 
Kong, from the Shimon tribe. He begged to learn from Yi, who saw in this foolish but determined fighter the potential to become a new disciple. Through teaching, Yi felt her purpose reestablished. He would pass on the teachings of Wuju and presented his apprentice with an enchanted staff and an honorific as a sign of their commitment. From that day on, Kong was known as Wukong.
Together, they now travel the First Lands. To honor the legacy of his lost home, Yi allows him to reflect the "master" on his behalf.
