Playing like Riven

Broken wings of Riven looks at the champion you are hovering over at the start of the cast. If you want to move to the other side of your opponent, make sure your cursor is also on the other side of the opponent.
Riven lacks a source of iron healing or defense, so she must compensate with blast combos. Enter the fights with Broken Wings and Ki burst, leaving Courage to escape and absorb counterattacks.

Playing against Riven

Riven is highly mobile, but cannot advance very far with any skill. Rooting it or silencing it during combining will greatly reduce its effectiveness.
All the damage of Riven is physical, so prioritize Armor if a Riven's rival gets out of control.
Riven takes on multiple melee attackers wonderfully at the same time, as the damage level will be almost at the same level. If you're paired for Riven, don't do it as a double melee attack until you've used up your entire combination.

Use of Skills

Self-attack between uses of Broken Wings is a great way to take advantage of Runic Sword, because you consume a stack to do a little extra damage.
- Because Broken Wings produces exactly three stacks, which is the maximum it can have Runic Sword, one option would be to use the first two casts of Broken Wings before entering a team fight so that when you enter, you do a summed aerial takedown and your next three basic attacks are much more powerful.
Some skill combos allow less damage to be done in a short amount of time. For example, any cast of Broken Wings can be used while animating Wind Slash is still active. The quickest way to deal damage is to land on a soft target (like the enemy marksman) and do the following combo, with no basic attacks in between: E> R> Hydra> W> Q> R> Q> Q. Each skill in This combo will cancel the animation of the previous one, except the second cast of Sword of Exile and the third of Broken wings.
Use Broken Wings next to Valor will give you increased mobility and a bit of defense. This is a very efficient way to move around the map, as both abilities cost nothing. Nevertheless, Broken Wings lets you click on the mini-map and uses it as a direction point to keep moving forward, while Value cancels all move actions.
- Be careful to use your skills before a fight, because afterwards they will be on cooldown.
Broken Wings can be used to chase as you can do an aerial takedown.
Remember Broken Wings and Valor gives you a huge mobility boost to flee, but only the third cast of Broken Wings can be used to jump walls or structures. However, remember that you can go through all terrains generated by abilities like Crystallize from Anivia, Cataclysm of Jarvan IV o Pillar of Ice Trundle.
Wind Slash offers its highest possible damage when the enemy is below 25% health therefore use Wind Slash to finish off low-health escaping enemies is the best option.
Riven is a very strong solo top lane champion due to her ability to avoid ambushes with her mobility, her abilities cost no mana, and she has a shield that casts instantly. Play aggressive and use Courage to help you in 1vs1 clashes on the lane.
